First Steps Early Intervention Therapies

First Steps Early Intervention Program

accessAbilities' Early Intervention Team will work to ensure that your child's first steps will be in the right direction.

First Step Therapies from accessAbilities may include:

Physical Therapy – Physical therapists focus on large muscle development, in order to help a child to roll over, sit, crawl, or walk.

Occupational Therapy – Occupational therapists focus on small muscle development, helping the child to reach, grasp toys, and play in a purposeful way.

Speech Therapy – Speech language pathologists help to build an early foundation for language development and communication.  Feeding and swallowing therapies can also be provided.

Vision and Hearing Therapies – Certified teachers of the visually or hearing impaired are available to help children work toward independence.

Special Instruction – The experienced team of early childhood teachers can provide strategies to assist the child with problem solving and social skills, and to promote the child's comprehension and use of language.

Nutrition Therapy – Registered dietitians address feeding issues, dietary intake, and offer consultation with parents regarding special dietary needs.

Nursing – Registered nurses provide health assessments, in-home medical case management, preventative health care, information and referrals regarding resources and services, and act as a liaison between health care providers and families.

Psychology and Social Work – Licensed psychologists and licenced social workers provide psychological and developmental testing and assessments, family counseling, evaluations for at-risk children, or parenting education.

Additional Strategies – The Early Intervention Team may incorporate other strategies including infant massage, therapeutic listening techniques, sensory integration, or positive behavioral support plans for children with challenging behaviors.

Special Activities – Travel to several exciting places such as the Pittsburgh Zoo and PPG Aquarium, Idlewild Park, SeaBase, and other fun-filled community events with the Early Intervention Program.

Toy Lending Library – The agency offers a lending library that includes toys, books, and assistive technology that families may borrow to reinforce skills.
