Services that Facilitate Independent Living

accessAbilities offers a host of home- and community-based programs to fit the individual’s needs.  The services that we offer facilitate independent living.  For adults, these programs include:

Supports Coordination – accessAbilities can assist individuals in gaining access to the services they need. This can include identifying, coordinating, and facilitating waiver services, as well as advocating for support from other resources.  In addition, the agency will monitor services on an ongoing basis to assure the individual’s health and welfare.

Personal Care and Assistance – These services may include help with daily activities such as bathing, dressing, grooming, food preparation, eating, housekeeping, laundry, and non-medical health care such as wound and catheter care.

Independent Living/Community Integration SkillsaccessAbilities will help individuals learn basic skills necessary to live independently and that will make them more comfortable in the community.  These skills may include socialization and decision-making skills, basic banking and budgeting, meal preparation, and health and grooming tips.

Specialized Therapies – Licensed therapists can provide services including physical, occupational, or speech therapies.

Homemaker Services for Seniors – The Indiana Home Support Program provides assistance to eligible residents in Indiana County who are age 60 or older.  The services can include laundry and house cleaning.

Home ModificationsaccessAbilities can help individuals gain access to opportunities for home improvements that allow them to move around more freely or to function with greater independence in their homes.

Assistive Technology – As technology changes, more devices are becoming available to assist with everyday activities, including those that assist with vision and audio clues and electronic speech.  accessAbilities can help with the process for obtaining assistive devices.

Respite Care – Our services also include short-term, temporary support for family caregivers so that they can have time for themselves while knowing that their family member has the support and services they need.

Elks Home Service Nurses –  Our partnership with the Pennsylvania Elks Major Project includes supports such as educational advocacy, referrals, liaison services between health care providers, and emotional support to the family.
