accessAbilities Named StrongLand Chamber Nonprofit of the Year

GREENSBURG, PA – December 9, 2010 – accessAbilities, a multi-county nonprofit organization that provides home- and community-based services for children and adults with physical and/or cognitive disabilities, has been selected as the 2010 Nonprofit of the Year by the StrongLand Chamber of Commerce.

Twenty-one businesses, including both for-profit and nonprofit organizations, were nominated for the StrongLand Chamber’s inaugural awards.  Four businesses were selected for the Business of the Year award in the categories of nonprofit, small, medium, and large-sized business.  accessAbilities was selected from the nominations in the nonprofit sector.  The selections were based upon the business contributions to the community, growth, and how diligence and innovation moved the organization forward.  The award was officially presented at the Chamber’s 2010 Annual Dinner and Meeting.

This is the second Nonprofit of the Year Award that accessAbilities has received in as many years.   In 2009, the agency was honored as the Nonprofit of the Year by the Westmoreland Chamber of Commerce.

“We are extremely proud to be chosen as the recipient of the first Nonprofit of the Year Award from the StrongLand Chamber of Commerce,” says Jane Hurd, accessAbilities Chief Executive Officer.  “Our staff is very committed to our agency’s vision of empowering people with unique abilities to live life to its fullest.  It’s very rewarding for us to be acknowledged for our hard work and dedication to providing quality services, by not only one, but now two of the Chambers of Commerce in the geographic area that we serve.

“It’s especially meaningful for us to be recognized for our business practices and our impact on our local communities at a time when we are striving to make more people aware of the services that we provide and to reach individuals who may benefit from our services.”
