accessAbilities Confronts Stigma
Agency Awarded Grant by the Pennsylvania Developmental Disabilities Council
accessAbilities has been awarded a $75,000 statewide grant from the Pennsylvania Developmental Disabilities Council (PADDC) to develop a public education plan to confront the stigma experienced by individuals with disabilities. Changing negative societal attitudes toward people with disabilities is part of the PADDC’s mission, similar to accessAbilities’ mission of building communities where all are respected and welcomed to participate.
Through this 15-month grant, accessAbilities is charged with researching effective examples of public education, and then providing detailed recommendations to the Council regarding activities that it can undertake in this area. The agency is excited to play a role in developing messages and outreach efforts to help change attitudes toward individuals with disabilities throughout Pennsylvania.
If you are interesting in playing a role in the Stigma and Public Education Grant project, please contact Karen Struble Myers, accessAbilities Development Division Director, at 724-832-8272 or via email at kmyers@accessAbilities.org.
